Welcome the New Students

A new chapter begins as our new students step onto campus and embark on their university journey. As a place where knowledge is discovered, ideas are explored, and dreams take shape, the Library is an essential part of the university experience.

To help our new students settle into campus life and make the most of the Library’s resources and services, the New Student Library Orientation welcomed students to explore the Library and discover all it has to offer.

Through guided tours, hands-on demonstrations, and engaging activities, our freshmen got to know the Library, picked up practical skills, and took their first steps toward becoming confident and independent learners.

Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights from the orientation!

The orientation featured a variety of engaging activities, including an on-site tour, guided explanations, Q&A sessions, and resource handouts.

Library staff led the freshmen on a tour of different areas of the Library, providing detailed introductions to Library regulations, collection locations, borrowing procedures, and electronic resources. Students also received hands-on demonstrations of a range of Library  services and facilities, including the Library Search Engine, Chaoxing Chinese E-book Kiosk, RFID smart bookshelves, Self-Check units, Book sanitizers, and Soundproof pods.

Through these informative and interactive sessions, students gained a better understanding of how to navigate the Library and make full use of its diverse resources and facilities.

The Library Scavenger Hunt is still open to all first-year students.

Pick up a task card and complete 10 fun challenges by exploring the Library and searching its resources. From finding print materials and exploring electronic databases to trying out AI-powered academic tools, students can also discover special offerings such as the Graded Readers Book Club and database workshops.

The Scavenger Hunt is a great way to discover the Library’s resources and services. Complete all the challenges to redeem exciting prizes, including backpacks, beverage vouchers, desk lamps, and water bottles. Prizes are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Hunt runs until October 12th. Come join the adventure and discover what the Library has to offer!

The orientation welcomed 2,399 freshmen, organized into 251 MCP groups. A total of 1,585 valid satisfaction surveys were collected, with the results reflecting an overwhelmingly positive response:

  • 99.4% of students agreed that the orientation helped them better understand the Library’s resources and would be useful for their future studies.

  • 99.5% rated the explanations as clear and detailed.

  • 99.4% said they now knew where to seek advice and assistance if they had questions or needed help in the Library.

With that, this year’s Freshman Library Orientation comes to a successful close.

For many students, it was their first introduction to the Library and the beginning of a new journey. May the Library continue to be a place where curiosity grows, knowledge takes flight, and new possibilities unfold. May books be your wings as you embrace the opportunities and adventures that lie ahead.
